None Like You

I had an amazing time with Jesus this morning. I was worshiping to my Hillsong United Pandora station when Shane and Shane's song "None Like You" came on. A few months back when I first heard this song I was overtaken by the lyrics. I realized in that time of listening and worshiping that the lyrics could apply to both my love for Jesus and my love for my daughter. Then when I heard it again this morning I couldn't help but be overtaken once more, but this time in a different way. Along with thinking about my daughter and my love for her, I also was overwhelmed by the love Jesus has for me. I love my daughter so much and I haven't even met her yet--how much greater is His love me for me, His daughter?! As tears streamed down my face I heard my Heavenly Father say, "There is none like you, no one else can touch my heart like you do, I can search for all eternity long and find there is none like you." He sings the same song over you! Listen and be overwhelmed by His love for you!

You said "I know that this will hurt"

The Lord has made Romans 8:22-28 known to me on a couple of occasions.

First, it was a little over a year ago when everyone and their sister were getting pregnant. If you know anything about me, you know that I've always desired to be a mother. I feel like it's part of the calling God has placed on my life. I've been ready since I was a kid and for Travis and me to wait as long as we did to finally have a child took a lot of patience and trusting in God. I was reassured of God's timing and his faithfulness when I stumbled upon this passage and more aptly this verse:

"But if we look forward to something we don't have yet, we must wait patiently and confidently." Romans 8:25 (NLT)

Then a few months ago the Lord brought this passage back to me.

I love God's Word because it's always relevant to what you're going through. You could've read a certain passage 10 times throughout a given year and each time it says something different, something that applies to what you're going through at that specific time.

When I stumbled upon this passage again I was beginning to feel the affects of pregnancy, and I was also thinking a lot about the type of birth I was going to have. Do I want to have pain meds that allow me to feel nothing, and not know what my body is going through or do I want to go natural and feel every contraction, every pain--a pain so powerful some women compare it to completing a marathon? Usually I would say give me the drugs!! But something inside of me was telling me I can do this without meds, I can get through this pain! And I think that something was the Holy Spirit.

Now this passage isn't directly about pregnancy but instead compares our life with Christ here on earth longing for that day in Heaven to a woman who is pregnant, giving birth, and in a whole LOTTA pain. Take a look see (I've added the italicized in parenthesis):

"All around us we observe a pregnant creation. The difficult times of pain throughout the world are simply birth pangs. But it's not only around us; it's within us (Juice Drop). The Spirit of God is arousing us within. We're also feeling the birth pangs. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance (I'm yearning for a full delivery!). That is why waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, don't see what is enlarging us (I'm enlarged and haven't seen Juice Drop just yet). But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy (pregnancy takes a while, just as labor does, but in the end it's all worth it!). Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along (when labor gets too intense or I get too tired, God is right there with me, experiencing the pain too). If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in us and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans (oh, I'll be groaning all right!). He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God (He knows my body better than I do, and He knows I can do this!). That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good (and when I see my daughter's face, all will be GOOD!)." Romans 8:22-28 (The Message)

Wow! What an amazing passage not just for me going through labor but for that yearning and desire to be with our Heavenly Father. How great the Father's love for us that we will go through whatever it takes to be with Him, and all along He is there right beside us going through the same pain and anguish. We find joy in enduring these "birth pangs" because we know in the end it is all worth it, our joy will be complete, and we will experience no more pain!

I know it sounds crazy, to experience pain for the joy that comes in the end. But I look forward to feeling that pain, to that feeling where I know I'm alive, so that in the end I will be pain-free and will know joy like I've never known before!

**Disclaimer: I realize circumstances arise when pain meds and other medical procedures are necessary for the mother and for the baby. I do not believe this makes the mother less of a mother, less of a woman, or less of a child of God. If you choose or it's deemed necessary to have medical intervention, then that's great. My goal is to have a natural birth and whatever happens in the labor and delivery room happens, and I'm trusting God to get me through it, whether it's naturally or with medical intervention.

A Grapefruit + a Mashup of Stars and Whales = a Heavenly Symphony

I can still remember the tangy yet sweet smell of grapefruit in the mornings from long ago. My dad would eat one every morning, with his spoon in hand and newspaper in front of him, he was ready for his day. I had a taste of it one time, and that was probably the last time. My little tongue stuck out and all I could think is how can a fruit taste this bitter? Ick! Little did I know I would later come to love the idea of a grapefruit inside of me regardless of it's bitter flavor. Hip, Hip, Hooray for growing Juice Drop, you have now graduated to a pink, bitter fruit that will forever remind me of mornings spent with your Grandpa!

How far along? 23 weeks
Total weight gain: 12 lbs
Maternity clothes? wearing them most of the time! Let me tell you how good it feels to wear clothes that actually fit you and don't pinch in places where you shouldn't be pinched: IT FEELS GREAT!
Stretch marks? no :)
Sleep: still pretty good, still waking up most nights to pee, still finding myself waking up on my back (whoopsies!), and still sometimes forgetting I have a belly until I sit up in the morning
Best moment this week: spending time with GREAT friends in Charleston and basking in the glorious sun on the beach! Oh, and despite having no power last night, meeting new neighbors and spending time with friends because the only thing to do was sit outside of your house
Miss Anything? being able to lay on my stomach when I lay out in the sun haha!...you should see a pregnant lady trying to get her back tan, it's a sight to see!
Movement: so much!!! **check out the video below**
Food cravings: I hate this question because I crave anything and everything!
Anything making you queasy or sick: no
Gender: GIRL!!!
Labor Signs: still nope lol
Symptoms: major indigestion!
Belly Button in or out? outie
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: Mostly happy but the mood swings hit pretty quickly and Travis gets the brunt of it; sorry, babe!
Looking forward to: a weekend without any plans! :)

Besides hanging out at the beach and enjoying some quality time with our amazing friends this past weekend we got the opportunity to see a few movies. Travis went with the guys to see The Avengers (which I still wouldn't mind seeing) and the ladies and I saw What to Expect When You're Expecting. Of course I was expecting all of the stereotypes and myths you hear about being pregnant and laughs throughout, and that's exactly what I got. It was pretty good and I cried during the labor and delivery scenes (out of pure joy or fear of what is to come for me, I still don't know yet!) but the best film we watched this weekend wasn't at the theater; it was a short video of Louie Giglio speaking about a symphony of praise to God. Please take a few minutes to watch this video and listen to just a snippet of what God gets to hear constantly--a mashup of stars and whales singing and creating a symphony of praise! If you don't want to listen to all 14 minutes, let me just describe to you the beginning, then you can jump to 8:35 and listen to what it sounds like all together. Basically Louie explains that different stars make different sounds and whales make sound by singing to one another. Louie takes all those sounds and mashes them together to make a song. It is so beautiful and you can't help but sing along (he puts it to lyrics you may know). While Travis and I sat together watching and praising God, Juice Drop began moving around like I've never felt her before! It was such a beautiful moment because I could just imagine her dancing inside of me to the music. And knowing that the God of the universe, who thoroughly enjoys listening to the stars and whales (his creation) singing, loves this little being inside of me more than any of that, He loves seeing her dance for Him, and this same God who holds the universe in His hands also holds my baby girl in His hands! WOW! How can you not be humbled after an experience like that and not have tears in your eyes for the awesomeness of our creator?! This will be a moment I will always cherish and remember. I can't wait to be able to tell our little girl about the night she danced for her Heavenly Father.
