Old Wives Tales

So Old Wives Tales never really have any merit, especially when it comes to pregnancy. But since we got to see our sweet little Juice Drop yesterday in 4D and we're having our Gender Reveal Party tomorrow (nope, we still don't know yet!!), it's still fun to try to guess what we're having based on the below list. There's a 50/50 chance that the below are accurate--only makes sense, right?

1. Do you crave the heals of bread or the middle?
Heals: Boy
Middle: Girl

2. Hands Chapped/Dry or Softer?
Chapped: Boy (only because I've had to wash them constantly since having poison ivy)
Softer: Girl

3. Eating more or sick/nauseated?
Eating more: Boy
Sick: Girl

4. During the pregnancy, have you been crabby or happy?
Crabby: Girl
Happy: Boy

5. Carrying low or high?
Low: Boy
High: Girl

6. Is the heartbeat high or low:
High: Girl
Low: Boy

7. Which side do you lay on when resting:
Left: Boy
Right: Girl

8. During the pregnancy, have you been clumsy or graceful?
Clumsy: Boy
Graceful: Girl

9. Show me your hands.
Shows them palms up: Girl
Shows them palms down: Boy

10. Consider the Mother’s age at conception and the year of conception.
Both even or Both odd: Girl
One is even and one is odd: Boy

11. Are you craving sweet or salty/sour?
Sweet: Girl
Salty/Sour: Boy

Welp, based on these OWT's we're having a BOY!!! There's really no way to be sure until we take a big bite out of that cupcake tomorrow night and the color reveals itself. Is the anticipation killing you yet?? Because it's sure killing me!!

Harvey Dent and Our Sweetie (Potato) Pie

There are so many exciting things going on this week but to throw a kink into a great week I just happen to look like Harvey Dent from Batman. You know, the Harvey Dent after he becomes the villain...you can just call me Two-Face. I just happened to come home with an unexpected souvenir from our trip to the mountains: an allergic and unpleasant reaction to Poison Ivy (Oh, great, another Batman character! so I guess you could call me either one, but either way, I've turned into a DC (or is it marvel?) villain!) So I'm trying to keep my hopes and spirits high as my face is swollen and my rash spreads elsewhere on my body, and all the while planning a baby shower for this Sunday for my dear friend Heather and going to get an ultrasound tomorrow to find out the gender of Juice Drop and have a Gender Reveal Party this Saturday for our friends and family and an Urban Eagles game this Friday and an Urban Eagles tournament this Saturday. I came across a beautiful passage this morning that has helped me get through, at least, today:

"Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

Besides the fact that I've turned into Two-Face (or Poison Ivy) and everything else that's going on this week, the most exciting thing is that Juice Drop turns 18 weeks and we get to find out if our sweet potato pie is a girl or boy!

You might be asking "what poison ivy?"
Well lucky for me I'm showing the side of my face that doesn't have the poison ivy yet.
How far along? 18 Weeks
Total weight gain: well I didn't think I had gained any weight when I wrote the last post but then I went to the doctor last Thursday and apparently I had! haha! so total weight gain is: 7 lbs--Juice Drop is getting big!
Maternity clothes? and still a resounding no... but for reals, I need to get a bellaband and new shirts because I tried wearing my favorite pants last Friday and even with a rubber band around the button they couldn't zip up all the way! bahaha!
Stretch marks? Nope
Sleep: not this week! my poison ivy has made it absolutely impossible to get some zzz's
Best moment this week: hearing my little baby's heartbeat and the doctor saying she could hear him/her moving around!
Miss Anything? sleep
Movement: still can't tell if it's Juice Drop or just gas lol
Food cravings: I've noticed I'm not craving sweets which I always craved before pregnancy (my girl scout cookies aren't even all gone yet!!!), I think I'm liking salty stuff
Anything making you queasy or sick: looking at my blisters from my poison ivy
Gender: WE FIND OUT THIS SATURDAY!!!!
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: nothing out of the ordinary this week, I think my poison ivy symptoms are on overdrive and making my pregnancy symptoms seem minuscule
Belly Button in or out? both :)
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: unfortunately not so happy with my poison ivy, I feel like I've kept a good spirit about me but my lack of sleep and my itchiness and my leperness has caused my happiness to falter
Looking forward to: seeing Juice Drop in 4D and finding out his/her gender at our Gender Reveal Party on Saturday!!!!!!!

Two-Face says:
Stay tuned to find out if Juice Drop is a girl or boy!

Dear Poison Ivy...a letter from Juice Drop

Dear Poison Ivy,

Please go away. You're making my Mommy itch all over and it's not very nice. She's really sorry she trampled through your plant on her hike the other day but it was only because she really had to pee (it's kind of my fault since I have to make her go pee all the time now). Her legs, her arm, and her face are now being taken over by your blisters and because of me there's not really anything she can take to make you go away. She didn't sleep very well last night and now she's having to wear long pants and long sleeve shirts in 80 degree weather so she isn't tempted to itch. If you could be so kind and leave on your own without spreading anywhere else on my Mommy's body that would be wonderful. I wish she could be like my Daddy and not be allergic to you, but alas, she is and now she's suffering through the pain. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Juice Drop

Showers of Blessings

One of the fun parts about pregnant at this time is that one of my great friend's Heather Jackson is also pregnant! I love that along with our husbands we all work for the Urban Eagles, we live less than 5 minutes away from each other, and both of the neighborhoods we live and work in are consumed by mainly refugees. We already have so much in common, to throw babies in there too just makes it that much better! Our hanging out time will soon turn into play dates, and I am totally okay with that :)

Heather had a baby shower today and it was so special and beautiful. She was absolutely glowing! (I mean, check her out!) I am so excited for Heather and her husband Stephen and I can't wait until the day when I get to meet that little baby girl! God is blessing this child with some amazing parents and she is going to grow up having a hunger for Christ like none other!

So of course when I found out Heather was pregnant I was so excited to start making little baby stuff! When we learned that she was having a girl I made little leggings for her right away. (I'm sorry I don't have pics of the leggings but don't worry, when I find out what I'm having those are one of the first things I'll be making!) For her shower I decided to make her a diapers and wipes clutch/case. It was super easy and the fabric I found was super cute! (her nursery is owl themed :) I found this amazing tutorial at Just a Bit Frayed. However, I added a little wrist sling so Heather can be hands free to take care of that sweet baby girl. I was so excited to give it to her, and by her reaction, I think she loves it too!

Isn't she just glowing? Her due date is May 23 which is a special day for Stephen and Heather
because it's also their wedding anniversary :)

I can't wait to make my own for my little Juice Drop!!!
